Polygyros, the capital of Chalkidiki

Polygyros is built in the shape of an amphitheater on a plateau on the south west side of the mountain Cholomontas. You can experience the old town houses surrounded by rocky pathways at the center of the town and the Archaeological Museum. The Archaeological Museum has exhibits containing findings from all over Halkidiki.

Cave of the Red Stones

A must see area is the Petralona Cave, also known as the Cave of the Red Stones. Located 38.5 km from Glavas Inn, the site came to public attention when in 1960 a fossilised hominid skull was found. “Bejeweled” with impressive stalactite and stalagmite formations, and holding an abundance of fossils the cave soon attracted geologists and palaeontologist.
